Accordion-Duo YavaBand – original, modern and unique
What sets this "instrumental ensemble" apart is its distinctive sound: original, modern and unique. Successful at prestigious international accordion competitions, the prize-winning YavaBand Accordion Duo is composed of two accordionists from St. Petersburg: YanaFedoruk/ Яна Федорук and Vladimir Popolzin/ Владимир Поползин.

Formed in 2009, they released their debut album in 2010, titled, "YavaBand - Beyond the Ocean" featuring compositions and arrangements for solo and duo by Vladimir Popolzin. They did concert tours of Germany in both 2009 and 2010. In October of 2010, the acclaimed YavaBand Accordion Duo won first prize at the Festival Internazionale Castelfidardo, Italy.
Hallmarks of this duo are special arrangements of songs from the genres of jazz, swing, folk, pop, rock, tango, and musette – new improvisational interpretations of known hits. "Classical" examples are "Waltz for Nicky" by Richard Galliano, and "Vuelvo al sur" by Astor Piazzolla. Folk themes are infused with jazz elements, examples being "Volare" or "Long is the route" (better known in Western Europe under the title "Those Were the Days"). Their repertoire also contains works Vladimir Popolzin specifically composed for the accordion duo such as the rapid "Côte d'Azur", the dreamy "Winter Night", the swing "Al & Bobby" and the classic sounding "Praeludium and Allegro".
In July 2011, they performed a concert at the International Accordion Festival in Palanga, Lithuania, hosted by the Lithuanian accordionist Raimondas Sviackevicius. Their unique music garnered much enthusiasm from the audience. On the program were mainly compositions by Vladimir Popolzin like "Prelude and Allegro", "Summer Evening in Palanga", "Côte d'Azur" and "Al and Bobby", as well as jazz arrangements of the Italian song "Volare" by Modugno, the Gypsy romance "Long is the way" by Fomin, the classic tango nuevo "Vuelvo al sur" by Piazzolla and the hit "Tequila" by Rio. The audience shouted enthusiastic bravos to the mix of popular themes and jazz improvisation.
September/October of 2011 will see the duo on tour in Germany again, primarily in the Rhine-Main area. Contacts with the heads of accordion orchestras are eagerly anticipated and appreciated, as performing for new audiences and in annual concerts would certainly be a highlight for both audience and performers, something to rave about for a long time to come!
